Cyprus College Research Committee

The research activity is coordinated by the College Research Committee which is composed of the Deans of Schools (or their representatives), the MBA Program Director, the Director of the Institute of Social and Political Research, the Director of the Center of Childhood and Adolescence, two faculty members nominated by the Chairman of the Research Committee, at least one external academician, and the Director of the Research Center who will act as Chairperson of the Committee. The Committee is accountable to the Dean of the College and, through him, to the President of the College.

All calls for proposals as well as all the relevant information regarding research and development programs are disseminated through the Research Center of the College.

Ethics Committee

The Committee has executive authority to allow or not allow ethically-related work to be undertaken by Faculty and staff of the College. This includes the authority to require Dean of Schools, Heads of Departments and other similar managers to provide information relating to research experiments, activities or processes taking place under their responsibility.

Assessment of risk and/or research ethics

All researchers, before the evaluation of their research proposal (except undergraduate and taught postgraduate research projects), have to submit a Research Ethics Declaration form for evaluation by the College Research Ethics Committee.

Disciplinary Committee

The Disciplinary Committee takes appropriate action to maximize awareness of the need to avoid activities that might be misinterpreted as research misconduct, enhance concern regarding ethics in research related activities. It receives allegations of misconduct in research: be well publicized and widely recognized by faculty members as the group to who suspected misconduct in research is to be reported. It ensures that an appropriate balance is struck between protecting the rights of the person accused of misconduct (the respondent) and protecting the person making the allegation (the complainant) from possible retaliation. The course of action must be suitable to the circumstances of each individual case. In addition it makes every reasonable effort during an inquiry or investigation to keep confidential all information. Normally, only those persons directly involved in the inquiry and subsequent stages of investigation should be informed that a review is in progress and be advised of information that is uncovered during the course of the investigation. Moreover, it promptly reports to the appropriate dean /chairperson/ director any allegation that is judged to have been made without reasonable basis in fact and is considered to have been made with malicious intent. And last but not least it promptly notifies the appropriate dean/chairperson/director, during an inquiry or investigation that any of the following conditions exist:

  1. An immediate health hazard is involved;
  2. There is an immediate need to protect equipment or College resources, reputation, or other interests;
  3. There is an immediate need to protect the interests of the person(s) affected by the inquiry;
  4. It is probable the alleged incident will be reported within the scientific community or publicly
