Center of Applied Research

INTRODUCTION

The Center of Applied Research was established in 1991 as an independent, non-governmental institution providing the highest quality research services. It contributes to both the enhancement of knowledge in general and the provision of accurate and systematic information to public and private organizations.
The Center performs systematic enquiries aimed at providing information either to help solve problems or to study social phenomena in contemporary Cyprus.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The Center of Applied Research, being sensitive to the needs of public and private institutions, has set the following as its main objectives:

  • To initiate, undertake and promote research of the highest quality, following sound methodological criteria and adhering to strict ethical codes;
  • To contribute to progress by providing organizations, the government and the public with reliable information and research findings;
  • To disseminate knowledge and experience by functioning as a resource center for academics, researchers, students and the community at large; and
  • To assist organizations develop human resources through training and find solutions through counseling and consulting services.

The Center serves both the wider community as well as satisfies the needs of individual clients in both the public and private sectors. The Centers main fields of activity include:

  • Socio-economic research
  • Social and opinion research
  • Market research
  • Training and consulting

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

The personnel of the Center have constant touch with the latest developments in their fields and continuously acquire new knowledge through, inter alia, membership of professional associations. The Center adheres to the professional codes of conduct of marketing and social research practice as prescribed by:

  • ESOMAR (European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research)
  • MRS (The Market Research Society)
The Center and/or staff are also members of various other local accrediting institutions or associations, such as:
  • Cyprus Institute of Technology
  • Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus
  • Cyprus Human Resource Management Association
  • Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry

MAIN FIELDS OF ACTIVITY

Research, Training and Consulting

The Center of Applied Research undertakes activities in both the research as well as training and consulting fields.

RESEARCH:

In the research field, the Center undertakes activities in the following areas:
Socio-Economic Research
  • Ad hoc socio-economic research
  • Socio-economic and survey inputs into other fields such as planning and public policy
  • Economics and economic development research
Social and Opinion Research
  • Ad hoc social research
  • Annual Social Attitudes Survey Series
  • Political polling and public opinion surveys

The Center has spent considerable time studying the theoretical bibliography on political marketing and the practical experience of political research organizations abroad. It has undertaken political polling that incorporated this vast bibliography and experience.

Market Research

  • Consumer research
  • Industrial and business-to-business research
  • Product market assessment
  • Trade and exhibition surveys
  • Media research etc.

TRAINING AND CONSULTING:

In terms of training and consulting, the Center is actively involved in the following:

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

In addition to research, the Center is actively involved in professional management training seminars as well as Human Resource projects, assisting organizations to identify training and other human resource development needs. The Center promotes training and needs assessments utilizing the schemes of the Human Resources Development Authority and the Institute of Technology.
Qualified and experienced personnel provide Training and assessment services. Seminars cover a wide variety of professional activities including:

The Center also assists organizations in defining training needs through organizational culture surveys; training needs analysis and other measurement tools.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER (BDC)

The Center has established a Business Development Center to satisfy the needs of businesses for customized expertise at a moderate cost. Business centers in universities play an important role all over the world in assisting organizations to remain competitive, survive and grow incrementally.

The Business Development Center offers assistance in:
  • Business Start-ups
  • Business Planning
  • Business Diagnosis

THE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER PROVIDES SUPPORT THROUGH:

  • Practical Training
  • Customized Consulting
  • Follow-up and Ongoing Support.

PERSONNEL

The Center is staffed by highly qualified individuals who are specialists in their fields. All professional staff members have either PhD or Master's level qualifications.
The faculty at Cyprus College is also a valuable source of expertise for the Center and is comprised of highly qualified professors and lecturers who have graduated from various universities in different parts of the world.
Furthermore, the Center draws on the expertise of associates both inside and outside Cyprus and has widespread contacts with institutions abroad.
